1969 Plymouth Road Runner - $49,995 - Houston, TX -

This "Perfect Purple" beauty really is the complete package.  From it's gorgeous paint job and monster 440 engine stroked to 505 with 700HP! to it's Vintage A/C and Heat, 5-Speed Tremec and an awesome Kenwood Sound System, this Roadrunner has it all.

This Custom, Modern, Pro-Street Restoration was done in 2008 and shows just 3500 miles on the odometer. No expense was spared on this great car.

This was a complete, rotisserie restoration. Any areas of rust were completely repaired using new sheet metal or in the case of the trunk, an entirely new trunk pan.  There are about 50 pictures documenting the restoration and showing the areas of repair.

The entire uni-body was sandblasted, primed and undercoated. The paint is a "Perfect Purple" paint that is absolutely gorgeous. The restoration and paint job was performed by Pappy's Paint & Body in Magnolia, Texas on an hourly basis.

Car was blocked and sanded 6 times and the paint is very slick. The car is a deep purple with slight blue metallic flakes.  The car really sparkles under the light and under the sunshine.  All frame pieces, interior and under hood pieces are "Perfect Purple" as well.

The car was originally a 383 car but now has a 440 engine stroked to a 505 balanced roller engine.  The Indy Heads and Intake were street ported with custom rocker arms which sit under a Holley 1150 Dominator, Double Pumper Carburetor with MSD ignition system and 2-1/4" headers.

The fuel is delivered through 1/2" braided fuel lines (with under hood liquid pressure gauge) with a Holley 200 gallon bpm fuel pump with custom sump installed on a new factory gas tank.

Car makes about 700 HP on pump gas. This great car has an extreme amount of power, lopes and sounds great, but is still tame enough for anyone to drive.

The car has a 3" exhaust system which dumps underneath the car with Flowmaster mufflers.

The car also has Wildwood, 4-Wheel Disc, Power Brakes slotted on the front.  Magna Force K-member front end coil over conversion replacement with power steering including fully adjustable pro-street shocks all around.

All K-member bracing is painted and bolted into the firewall and frame instead of welded which allows a much cleaner job.

Engine also bolts to K-member bracing via a Magna Force aluminum engine plate and also high strength motor mounts.

Engine cooling is delivered by an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. Does not overheat while driving, even with air conditioner running!

Rear axle is a new, Dana 60 Strange Worm Gear Locking, 3.73 Drag Axle on new heavy duty springs with rear sway bar and snubber. Car really hooks up! Car also has painted frame connectors.

Transmission is a new, Tremec, 5-Speed standard with an internal throw-out bearing and 700HP+ assembly. This was bought as a kit made specifically for this car which makes for a very neat and clean installation.

Interior of the car was put back with all new original components to keep the old school feel to it.  The only alteration was an awesome custom dash using all Mopar performance gauges which fits the car nicely.

Shoulder harness seatbelts were also added in the rear for children. TKO pistol grip shifter and Brunswick custom steering wheel finish off the interior.

Car has Vintage Air Conditioning and Heating.

The car also has a very strong sound system.  It is a Kenwood CD/USB/MP3 radio with 6 speaker system and sub-woofer including two amps mounted in the trunk.

The car still has its original Roadrunner "Beep-Beep" horn.  The battery is mounted in the trunk in an aluminum battery box.

All lenses for lights, grills, door handles, mirrors, bumpers, etc. were purchased new. Old stainless was re-polished due to better quality which looks like new now.

All gaskets and rubber components were purchased new as well as every piece of glass. All window mechanisms were rebuilt with new rollers and slides. Vent windows were re-chromed.

Car sits on 17" Cragar wheels, 8" wide on the front, 11" wide on the rear and was lowered 1-1/2” via front end and sits perfectly!

In closing, no corners were cut.  This car is a one of a kind street rod that is an absolute head turner. The owner tells us that he was personally involved in every step of the restoration and that he has nearly $130,000 invested in this car.

His loss is your gain!  This really is a great car!

History

The Plymouth Satellite was an automobile introduced in 1965 as the top model in Plymouth's mid-size Belvedere line. The Satellite remained the top of the line model until the 1967 model year, where it became the mid-price model with the GTX taking its place as the top model. Significant restyling and a higher trim Sport Satellite model was introduced in 1968. 1968 was also the first year that the Satellite line was expanded beyond the 2-door hardtop and convertible, when a 4-door sedan and station wagon were offered.

The Plymouth Road Runner was a performance car built by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation in the United States between 1968 and 1980. In 1968, the first muscle cars were, in the opinion of many, moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they gained options. Although Plymouth already had a performance car in the GTX, designers decided to go back to the drawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept. Plymouth wanted a car able to run 14-second times in the quarter mile and sell for less than US$3000. Both goals were met, and the low-cost muscle car hit the street. The success of the Road Runner would far outpace the upscale and lower volume GTX, with which it was often confused.

Although Plymouth already had a performance car in the GTX, designers decided to go back to the drawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept.

In 1971, the coupe bodywork was completely changed to a more rounded ''fuselage'' design in keeping with then-current Chrysler styling trends, including a steeply raked windshield, hidden cowl, and deeply inset grille and headlights. In a departure from previous thinking, the B-Body two-door bodies shared little if any sheet metal, glass, or trim with the four-door bodies. The convertible was canceled. 1971 was a high-water year for ride and handling for the Road Runner.

Everything essential to performanceand handling was beefed-up and improved; everything nonessential was left out.

Although Plymouth already had a performance car in the GTX, designers decided to go back to the drawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept. The success of the Road Runner would far outpace the upscale and lower volume GTX, with which it was often confused.

The 1969 model kept the same basic look but with some slight changes such as tail lights and grille, side marker lights, optional bucket seats, and new Road Runner decals. The Road Runner added a convertible option for 1969 with 2128 droptop models produced that year. All were 383 engine cars, except for ten 426ci Hemi convertible cars. Six of those Hemi convertibles were automatics and four were four-speed manual transmissions. Six are known to exist. No 440 6-bbl convertibles were made in 1969.

History

The Plymouth Road Runner was a performance car built by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation in the United States between 1968 and 1980. Although Plymouth already had a performance car in the GTX, designers decided to go back to the drawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept. Plymouth wanted a car able to run 14-second times in the quarter mile (402 m) and sell for less than US$3000. Both goals were met, and the low-cost muscle car hit the street.

The 1969 model kept the same basic look but with some slight changes such as tail lights and grille, side marker lights, optional bucket seats, and new Road Runner decals. The Road Runner added a convertible option for 1969 with 2,128 droptop models produced that year. All were 383 engine cars, except for ten 426ci Hemi convertible cars. Six of those Hemi convertibles were automatics and four were four-speed manual transmissions. Six are known to exist. No 440 6-bbl convertibles were made in 1969.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1968 Plymouth Road Runner for your motoring consideration. Paying $50,000 to Warner Bros.-Seven Arts to use the name and likeness of their Road Runner cartoon character, paying $10,000 to develop a ''beep, beep'' horn, and using the Chrysler B platform as a base, Plymouth set out to build a back-to-basics muscle car. Everything essential to performance and handling was beefed-up and improved; everything nonessential was left out.

This Road Runner is a 2-owner car with the first ownership dating from 1968-1994 and the second from 1994-present. It recently received a cosmetic and mechanical restoration with a new silver base-coat/clear-coat and a correct, but non-numbers matching, 383ci V8 matted to a 4-speed manual with a Hurst pistol grip shifter. It is a life-long Michigan car and presents itself as a driver that could be taken to a concourse level if desired. It features power steering, a bench seat, and heat. Call now for further details.

1969 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible

R6 Red (scorch red)

Black Interior

440 6-Pak engine

Automatic 727 Torqueflite

Front Disc Brakes

Electronic Ignition

Red Line Radials (6,000 miles)

This was a rotisserie restoration in 2006.  Every panel, nut, bolt and bracket was scrutinized, re-conditioned or replaced as necessary to restore this classic to its former glory.  As per the build sheet, which is included, the vehicle was painted R6 red and has the correct matching black interior.

Nothing has been modifed or cut to prevent revert - back to as-built!

All of the original parts as per the build sheet have been retained and are part of this auction.

The decision to install the 440 6-Pak / automatic combination was made so my wife would drive this cruiser. It was decided to install front disc brakes and upgrade to electronic ignition and voltage regulator for safety and reliability reasons. All of the parts are factory OEM found in later MOPAR models.

The 440 uses the Mopar purple shaft cam along with a factory stall torque converter to provide 500 horsepower, 12 miles / gallon, and stands up when you step on it.  The car drives beautifully. The engine accelerates aggressively, and the transmission shifts smooth and smartly through the gears. The car stops in a straight line even under heavy braking. There is no smoke or unusual sounds from the engine and the  car is rattle free.

The AM radio is installed, but not working. The convertible top works and is leak free and wrinkled from much non-use. I would recommend a top replacement.

This car was engineered to be a cruiser and has been driven between Ft. Lauderdale, Fl and Cleveland, Ohio twice and now resides in Boca Raton.

I have included the build sheet in the photo section which was decoded by GALEN GOVIER . Whereas I professionally restore automobiles, http://www.moparresto.com , I was directly involved in every aspect of this restoration. See above for contact information.

I have retained all of the receipts involved in this restoration which includes over $34,000 in materials.

***** Included in this auction are the following BONUS items! *******

383 correct engine with carb, distributor, exhaust manifolds

correct 4-speed transmission, flywheel (fresh), New Clutch, New Pressure Plate, New TO bearing, cross-member, crossshaft, bushings  and shifter

original front drum brake assemblies

an extra pristine white interior which includes, door panels, and seat covers
